A self-taught artist, MacIain's style includes using a solid foundation of values -  shadows and highlights - to emphasize the painting's main subject. 
She often enjoys using an added touch of a palette knife to help accent the focal point, as well as color.
MacIain explores the great outdoors and devotes time studying nature, lighting, and simple shapes or forms.
