Artist Louise Murphy | Western Galleries

OILS

Louise has been creating art since childhood when her aunt, Louise Hawkins, a working artist, encouraged her to develop her God given talent.
After studying Fine Arts and ceramics at The University of North Texas, Louise and her
husband first moved to Ontario Canada where she worked in clay and drawing.
Along with raising a family in Midland TX, she attended watercolor classes, and taught private art lessons to children of all ages.
Since moving to Fredericksburg Texas, she’s hosted children’s art classes, and enjoys plein air painting.
"Going outdoors to paint has opened my eyes to the complexity and beauty of God's creation. Everywhere I turn there is a scene waiting to be painted.”
Working in nature inspires and motivates her to seek out new locations. Exploring Provence, England, the Rocky Mountains, and Texas, have all brought a wealth of inspirations, painting references, and experiences.
And in today’s ever changing world, Murphy enjoys using art to record historical places to visually document what we have now as a reference for the future.
Other art interests include: still life, figure studies, and portraiture.
She has studied with John Budicin, CS Talley, Ian Roberts, Ron Rencher, Kevin Macpherson, Zhuaming Wu and Carolyn Anderson.
In 2022 Louise was chosen to create the artwork for Fredericksburg’s Food and Wine Festival poster, as well as the 2023 Fredericksburg Oktoberfest poster.
