Collection: Deb Johnson

Hill Country photographer Deb Johnson has always felt a kindred spirit and connection with horses.  As a young child she enjoyed riding and showing her Saddlebred horses.  While attending the University of Kentucky's Equine Horsemanship Program, she focused on riding and showing Hunters & Jumpers, as well as Dressage, while earning a certificate in Equitation Teaching.
After sustaining an injury that ended her equestrian riding pursuits, she would eventually focus on the joy of creating art with horses as her primary subject.  Through friends here in central TX who were associated with the San Antonio Dressage Association, she had access to capturing images of show horses.  This led to an invitation to serve as the Alamo Dressage Association Show Photographer.
Along her equine photography journey, Johnson enjoys illustrating connections between horses and their humans, and featuring the shapes and patterns of the interplay between light and shadow.

"It is my mission to make public these glimpses into the soul of the horses I photograph, using lines and nuanced lighting to inspire insightful observations."

As judge Hans Bauer (writer/photographer in Las Angelas & TX) wrote in his critique...  "Santiago invites the viewer to not just see but also to feel the essence of the horse."

Artworks will be available starting FIST FRIDAY OCT 4, 2024.
