Hill Country photographer Deb Johnson has always felt a kindred spirit and connection with horses.  As a young child she enjoyed riding and showing her Saddlebred horses.  While attending the University of Kentucky's Equine Horsemanship Program, she focused on riding and showing Hunters & Jumpers, as well as Dressage, while earning a certificate in Equitation Teaching.

After sustaining an injury that ended her equestrian riding pursuits, she shifted her attention to focus on the joy of creating fine art.   After studying portraiture and lighting through photography, it is no surprise that horses have been a primary subject for Johnson.
Through friends who are associated with the San Antonio Dressage Association, Deb had access to capturing images of top show horses.   Her work led to an invitation to serve as the Photographer for the Alamo Dressage Association's Horse Shows.

Along her equine photography journey, Johnson enjoys illustrating connections between horses and their humans, and featuring shapes and patterns of the interplay between light and shadow.

"It is my mission to make public these glimpses into the soul of the horses I photograph, using lines and nuanced lighting to inspire insightful observations."

Photography show judge Hans Bauer (writer/photographer in Las Angeles & TX) wrote in his critique of this award-winning artwork...  "Santiago invites the viewer to not just see, but also to feel the essence of the horse."
