New at Western Galleries is this one-of-a-kind original hand carved, anatomically correct, life size buffalo skull sculpture.
This project took approximately 400 hours, over a period of five months, for TX artist Randy Wood to create from start to finish.
The main skullcap, including fine details such as the teeth, and nasal cavities were carved from a single large piece of Texas red cedar, with some necessary epoxy fill, in a few places.
Removable from its stand, the stand was also designed and built by the artist using oak and cedar.

"This bison skull is special to me because I have also been very interested in Native American cultures my entire life.  I like to think this bison skull helps us to remember the past as it was carved from a very old cedar tree that grew in north central Texas."

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Randy Wood, a Senior Manufacturing / Tooling Engineer in north Texas, not only works with aero-space engineering technologies, but he also has enjoyed a lifetime of painting and drawing.   Randy first started out as a wildlife biologist, and eventually became an engineer, while creating art in his spare-time.
About ten years ago, his wife asked if he could make her a sea turtle sculpture from a large piece of wood.  During that initial project, he discovered that his vast knowledge of animal biology, combined with his innate attention to the finest details as a mechanical engineer, gave him the skills required to transform an ordinary old wood stump into an original fine art sculpture that is displayed as a main centerpiece in their home.   His wood carving journey had begun.
Because of the time commitment involved with each new sculpture, Randy only creates a limited number of sculptures per year.

This artwork is located at the artist's studio in Rowlett Texas.  Purchase online and the artist ships to USA customer.
