NOTES FROM ARTIST:
In 1871 Buffalo Soldier Company B was on patrol along the Red River. While on patrol they were ambushed by a war party of Kiowa Indians. Private Langston Foster and a soldier's horse were killed in this battle along with three Kiowa warriors. This ledger drawing depicts this historical event.
