NOTES FROM ARTIST:
1800's period-correct Comanche warrior wearing a personal war bonnet made from various bird feathers & dyed with natural pigment colors. There are a couple known bright colored Comanche bonnets in Museum collections.
During time of war, the most common face paint used was red & black. Full face, half-face, as well as red & black facial circles were part of their culture.
However, artworks depicting their painted facial circles are very rare.
